Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, India’s state-run energy major, has signed a letter of intent with Akasa Air to explore the future supply of sustainable aviation fuel, the companies said on the sidelines of Wings India 2026.
The agreement sets out a framework for cooperation between Indian Oil and the airline to support Akasa Air’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact through the possible use of sustainable aviation fuel.
Sustainable aviation fuel is seen as an important option to cut overall greenhouse gas emissions from air travel and is expected to play a major role in helping the aviation sector move towards net-zero emissions.
Shailesh Dhar, Country Head for aviation business at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, said the agreement underlines the company’s focus on expanding cleaner fuels and helping customers transition to lower-carbon energy. He said Indian Oil plans to use its experience in fuel production, supply and logistics to support the early use of sustainable aviation fuel.
Under the agreement, the two companies will study possible supply volumes, delivery points and timelines. They will also assess the use of approved sustainable raw materials and production methods for the fuel.
