India, Jordan sign MoUs on renewable energy, digital solutions

India and Jordan on Monday formalised a series of agreements to broaden cooperation across priority sectors including clean energy, water management, digital innovation and cultural preservation, as Jordan signalled its willingness to align with major India-led global initiatives during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day official visit to the country.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs’ official list of outcomes, the two sides signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding covering technical collaboration in new and renewable energy, joint efforts in the development and management of water resources, and a cultural twinning arrangement linking Jordan’s Petra with India’s Ellora caves. The visit also saw the renewal of the Cultural Exchange Programme for the 2025–2029 period and the signing of a letter of intent to share large-scale digital solutions that have driven population-wide digital transformation in India.

Jordan also conveyed its intention to become a member of key international platforms spearheaded by India, including the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuel Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

In a further boost to capacity building, India announced its support for the India–Jordan Centre of Excellence located at Al Hussein Technical University in Amman. The initiative includes plans to train 10 master trainers over the next three years.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jordan marks the first leg of his three-nation tour. During his meeting with King Abdullah II, the Prime Minister described their talks as productive and said he had presented an eight-point roadmap aimed at deepening bilateral engagement across a range of strategic and economic sectors.

Sharing details on social media platform X, PM Modi said the vision focuses on expanding cooperation in areas such as trade and economic ties, fertilisers and agriculture, information technology, healthcare, infrastructure development, critical and strategic minerals, civil nuclear collaboration and people-to-people exchanges.

Highlighting the cordial nature of India–Jordan relations, King Abdullah II hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting Prime Minister following the discussions.

After concluding his engagements in Jordan, PM Modi will head to Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, marking his first official visit to the African nation. The final stop of the tour will be Oman.
