IATA launches global SAF registry to boost aviation sustainability

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced a worldwide system to track the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The system, known as the SAF Registry, will be run by an independent body called the Civil Aviation Decarbonisation Organisation (CADO), reports Biofuels International.

The goal of the registry is to bring together airlines, fuel makers, and business customers in one system to clearly track how SAF is used. It will also help prevent the same environmental benefits from being claimed more than once.

So far, over 30 companies, including some of the world’s biggest airlines and airplane makers, have joined the registry. The launch is seen as an important step towards reducing pollution in the aviation sector and making air travel more environmentally friendly.
