Hynamics UK and Hy24 sign exclusive partnership to develop UK’s Fawley Green Hydrogen Project

Hynamics UK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the EDF Group specialising in low-carbon hydrogen production, has entered into an exclusive partnership with Hy24, a leading low-carbon hydrogen asset manager, to jointly develop and fund the Fawley Green Hydrogen Project in Hampshire, England, reports Energetica India.

The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the start of exclusive negotiations between the two companies. The project, estimated at EUR 300 million, aims to build a 120 MW electrolyser facility to produce green hydrogen, primarily to support the decarbonisation of the ExxonMobil petrochemical complex at Fawley.

The Fawley Green Hydrogen Project has been shortlisted under the UK government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) subsidy scheme. It represents a significant step forward in advancing the country’s hydrogen ambitions under its clean energy and industrial decarbonisation strategy.

Once operational, the facility is expected to cut up to 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually by replacing heavy fuel oil and grey hydrogen with cleaner hydrogen alternatives. The Fawley refinery is the largest of its kind in the UK, supplying 25% of the country’s road fuels and over 20% of aviation fuel, including a quarter of Heathrow Airport’s supply.

Pierre de Raphélis-Soissan, CEO of Hynamics UK, welcomed the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Hy24 marks a major milestone for our operations in the UK. It’s a testament to the trust and shared vision built over the years. Our MoU reflects the British Government’s Clean Industrial Strategy and demonstrates the strength of cross-border cooperation between industrial and financial leaders.”

Amir Sharifi, Comex Member and Strategy Lead at Hy24, also expressed optimism about the UK’s clean energy direction. “The UK policy framework offers clarity and support for ambitious decarbonisation projects. This partnership not only marks Hy24’s entry into the UK market but also positions us alongside a committed and capable player like Hynamics UK.”

Sharifi further emphasised the strategic importance of timing: “Leadership in the hydrogen sector is being defined now. The UK has shown strong and consistent resolve in building its hydrogen economy, and Hynamics UK is clearly among the most advanced players in this space. We are proud to support their efforts.”

Both companies signalled that the Fawley project could be the beginning of broader cooperation, aiming to advance multiple clean hydrogen initiatives in alignment with the UK’s long-term energy goals.
