Honeywell has entered into a partnership with USA BioEnergy (USABE) to implement its Experion PKS Distributed Control System (DCS) at the $2.8 billion biorefinery in Bon Wier, Texas. This facility is focused on converting wood waste into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), meeting the increasing demand for cleaner fuels in the aviation sector.
The project is expected to produce 680 million gallons of SAF through a 20-year offtake agreement with Southwest Airlines. When blended with traditional fuel, this SAF will yield a total of 2.59 billion gallons of net-zero fuel, potentially preventing 30 million metric tons of CO2 emissions.
Honeywell’s Experion® PKS will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the plant’s operations to ensure optimal performance. Nick Andrews, CEO of USA BioEnergy, remarked, “Choosing Honeywell’s systems for our Bon Wier facility was a strategic move to guarantee we operate at the highest levels of efficiency and safety.”
Currently, the facility is in the design and engineering phase, with Citi acting as the company’s representative. Honeywell will also integrate safety and cybersecurity systems to safeguard the biorefinery’s critical assets.
