Haryana CM Saini and other leaders cycle to state Assembly to promote environment conservation

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, accompanied by other leaders, rode bicycles to the Haryana Legislative Assembly to promote drug de-addiction and environmental conservation.

“Riding a bicycle keeps the environment clean and promotes good health. Exercise plays a vital role in everyone’s life. We are raising awareness against drug abuse across the state,” Saini said.

Highlighting the significance of physical well-being, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan noted that awareness campaigns are being actively promoted among the public.

“Today, MLAs from Haryana cycled from the MLA Hostel to the Assembly. When the youth stay away from drugs, they move forward in life, and so do their families. When society fosters an environment that encourages health consciousness and drug-free living, it contributes significantly to nation-building. The government is taking this issue very seriously,” Kalyan told reporters.

As part of the broader initiative, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) organized its regular ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ event on August 24, with police personnel from Delhi and Rajasthan joining participants to advocate for fitness.

Among the participants was Krisha Verma, Under-19 World Boxing Championship gold medallist, who expressed her enthusiasm about the event. “It was a pleasure to ride alongside Delhi and Rajasthan Police officers. The Prime Minister’s campaign, ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’, is a fantastic initiative to promote fitness across the nation. The Sports Authority of India and Fit India are constantly supporting us athletes. Cycling is great for staying fit — even we athletes incorporate it. I encourage youth to rise early and go for a run to inspire the next generation to lead a healthy lifestyle,” Verma said to ANI.

Police personnel also responded positively to the campaign. Additional SP Preeti Chaudhary of Rajasthan Police’s 11th Battalion remarked, “This group activity was thoroughly enjoyed. Since childhood, we’ve been taught to dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to fitness. I hadn’t cycled in a long time and felt hesitant at first, but with regular practice, it becomes easier.”

Sub Inspector Vinod Kumar added, “This campaign by the Indian government is generating new energy. Due to our workload, it’s often hard to find time for fitness, so this initiative is very beneficial. Yoga and daily exercise should be part of everyone’s routine.”

In Gujarat, the Ahmedabad Rural Police also joined the movement by organizing a five-kilometre cycle rally in collaboration with the Human Rights Foundation.

“Under the Fit India Mission, Ahmedabad Rural Police and the Human Rights Foundation conducted a five-kilometre cycle rally, with around 100 participants,” said Deputy SP Aastha Rana.

Launched in December 2024 by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the cycling campaign has since reached over 46,000 locations nationwide, with more than eight lakh people participating so far.
