H2APEX has acquired HH2E’s hydrogen project in Lubmin, northern Germany, further solidifying its presence in the German hydrogen market reports Enerdata. The project, which HH2E originally planned to develop in two stages—starting with 100 MW and expanding to 1 GW—includes land, infrastructure, and all essential utility connections, such as electricity and water supply.
Since 2023, H2APEX has been working on its own electrolysis facility in Lubmin. The first phase of this plant, with a 100 MW capacity, is scheduled for completion by 2028. The company aims to scale this site to 600 MW of installed electrolysis capacity. With the acquisition of the HH2E project, H2APEX now plans to construct an additional 100 MW facility by 2028, with a mid-term target of expanding it to 1 GW.
All hydrogen produced at the Lubmin sites will be powered entirely by renewable electricity, primarily sourced from northern Germany.
Lubmin has become one of Germany’s most promising locations for hydrogen development, thanks to its strong pipeline infrastructure and close proximity to offshore wind farms.
H2APEX, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based H2APEX Group, develops and operates green hydrogen electrolysis plants. The acquisition of HH2E’s project marks a strategic step in expanding its hydrogen production and deepening its footprint in Germany.
