GeoPura acquires Green Hydrogen Systems assets

UK-based hydrogen solutions provider GeoPura has acquired assets and staff from bankrupt Danish electrolyser manufacturer Green Hydrogen Systems (GHS), establishing its first overseas business in Denmark, reports H2-View.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, includes spare parts, tools, and fixtures for GHS’s A-Series electrolyser, as well as former GHS employees. The acquisition will allow GeoPura to keep operating its fleet of A-Series systems without replacing them, while also positioning the company for growth in continental Europe.

Rather than relocating the equipment and staff to the UK, GeoPura has set up a new subsidiary — GeoPura (Europe) — in Denmark, which will serve as an electrolyser support hub.

GeoPura’s core business is deploying Siemens Energy-made hydrogen power units, but it also produces hydrogen for its own projects and for sale to the wider market. The company operates production sites in northern England and recently secured UK government funding for a 15 MW project.

“We’re pleased to welcome a group of talented specialists who bring critical knowledge and expertise to our team,” said GeoPura CEO Andrew Cunningham.

GHS had been in financial trouble since October last year, despite a cost-cutting programme. After entering in-court restructuring in May, the company filed for bankruptcy when competitor Thyssenkrupp Nucera secured the rights to its newer X-Series electrolyser technology.
