GCAA joins hands with Volar Air Mobility for development of first green aviation technology hub in UAE

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE has partnered with Volar Air Mobility to create the first green aviation technology hub in the country, marking a key milestone in the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in aviation, reported Zawya.

As per media report, the Hub is designed to advance clean energy solutions, support research and development in sustainable aviation technologies, and encourage collaboration among international stakeholders, regulators, and innovators.

This initiative supports the UAE’s broader goal of becoming a global leader in green technology and reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, commented, “This MoU demonstrates our dedication to advancing sustainable aviation and supporting the UAE’s national strategy to cut carbon emissions.”

At the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Symposium 2024 in Montreal, Canada, Al Suwaidi emphasized that the Hub will be crucial in developing innovative solutions for a greener future.

Henry Hooi, Chairman of Volar Air Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with the GCAA on this pioneering hub. Our goal is to accelerate the adoption of green aviation technologies, and this collaboration will establish a centre of excellence for sustainable air mobility in the UAE.”

Hooi also noted that the partnership underscores the shared vision of both the GCAA and Volar Air Mobility to transform air travel through green technology, benefiting both the UAE and the global aviation community.
