Gas Malaysia to build two biogas purification plants

Kuala Lumpur: Gas Malaysia Bhd (KL:GASMSIA) announced plans on Thursday to set up two biomethane purification plants in Perak as part of its renewable energy push, reports The Edge Malaysia.

One of the facilities will be built in Air Kuning by Enproserve Group Bhd (KL:ENPRO), while the other will be developed in Trong by privately held MTC Orec Sdn Bhd, the company said in a statement. Project costs were not disclosed, and Enproserve did not reveal the value of its engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract in a separate exchange filing.

According to Gas Malaysia, the plants will remove impurities from raw biogas to produce cleaner biomethane. The purified gas will then be transported via mobile tube skids and injected into the company’s existing distribution network to supply industries and local communities.

Both plants are expected to be completed within 13 months. The projects come after the launch of Malaysia’s first centralised biomethane injection station in the southern region earlier this year.

“Natural gas continues to play an important role in the cleaner energy mix, and biomethane offers a reliable alternative while supporting the country’s renewable energy goals,” said Gas Malaysia CEO Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap.
