New Delhi: Reliance Industries Ltd will invest ₹75,000 crore in India’s North-Eastern states over the next five years, Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced on Friday at the Rising NorthEast Investors Summit. The company plans to set up 350 biogas plants and expand its operations in telecom, retail, and clean energy across the region.
Ambani said Reliance has already invested ₹30,000 crore in the region over the past four decades. With this new plan, the company aims to more than double its total investment, significantly increasing its contribution to the region’s development.
The investment is expected to create over 2.5 million jobs, both directly and indirectly. Ambani said the company hopes to make a positive impact on the lives of most of the North-East’s 45 million people.
As part of its clean energy efforts, Reliance plans to boost solar power generation in the region. Specific details on this initiative were not provided.
A major focus of the plan is the construction of 350 compressed biogas plants. These facilities will turn organic waste into gas that can be used as fuel for vehicles, in industries, and for cooking. Ambani said this will help transform unused land into productive resources.
The company also plans to expand its telecom and retail services throughout the region, supporting overall growth and infrastructure development.
