CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Emphasizes Green Char Dham Yatra, Expands EV Infrastructure Along Route
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday underscored the state’s commitment to making this year’s Char Dham Yatra an environmentally sustainable pilgrimage. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Yatra is being organized under the theme of a “Green Yatra.”
“In keeping with the Prime Minister’s vision, our goal this year is to conduct the Char Dham Yatra as a green, eco-friendly journey,” said CM Dhami. “As part of this initiative, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are being installed along the Yatra route. This move not only supports the pilgrims’ convenience but also marks a significant step towards making Uttarakhand pollution-free.”
To support the green initiative, the state has provided EV charging facilities at 25 locations along the pilgrimage route. In total, 38 charging stations are being developed through a collaborative effort between the Transport Department and THDC India Ltd, with 28 and 10 stations contributed by each, respectively.
Dhami noted that 25 charging stations were operational at the start of the Yatra, enabling smooth travel for those using electric vehicles. Many of these stations have been set up on properties owned by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN). Each station features universal chargers with a 60 kW capacity, equipped with two 30 kW charging guns to serve multiple vehicles simultaneously.
GMVN Managing Director Vishal Mishra added that charging stations have been strategically installed at key stopovers to promote the Green Char Dham Yatra and encourage the use of EVs. In Rudraprayag district, for instance, charging points have been established at four GMVN guest houses operated by the tourism department.
The state government views this initiative as a step forward in promoting responsible tourism, protecting the environment, and supporting the adoption of clean energy technologies in one of India’s most revered religious journeys.
