Enilive signs new agreement with easyJet for sustainable aviation fuel

Enilive has entered into a new agreement with easyJet to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for several flights departing from Milan Malpensa Airport. The SAF purchased by easyJet, which is blended with 20% SAF and conventional jet fuel, will help the airline meet its requirements for flights on two new routes to Norway (Malpensa-Oslo and Malpensa-Tromsø) during the winter season, reported Biofuels International.

Additionally, easyJet will benefit from SEA’s SAF Support Programme 2024, which offers a contribution of €800 per ton to carriers using SAF at Milan’s airports. This program has a total value of €500,000 for the year.

Enilive and easyJet have also signed a Letter of Intent to potentially supply around 30,000 tonnes of pure Enilive SAF to other Italian airports where easyJet operates.

Stefano Ballista, CEO of Enilive, commented, “Currently, SAF is the available solution to help decarbonize air transport. In the future, as the European Union’s ReFuelEU regulation is implemented, requiring a gradual increase of pure SAF to 70% by 2050, demand from operators like easyJet, which is already ahead in using SAF, will grow significantly. To meet this demand, we are developing new biorefining projects both in Italy and internationally.”

Raminder Shergill, director of tax and fuel strategy at easyJet, said, “SAF is crucial to our decarbonization strategy and will play a key role in helping the aviation industry achieve its net-zero targets. We are excited to work with Enilive and our partner SEA on this agreement, which we hope will further support the growth of the SAF industry.”
