Eni, Egypt’s Bioenergy Association partner to study biogas production from agricultural and animal waste

Baku, Azerbaijan: Energy company Eni has signed an agreement with the Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development, which works under Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, to carry out a study on setting up biogas production units that will use agricultural and animal waste, reports Trend.az.

The agreement was signed in Cairo in the presence of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi and Local Development Minister and Acting Environment Minister Manal Awad.

The joint study will examine the possibility of building a biodigestion plant that can turn farm and livestock waste into biogas, which can be used to produce electricity and heat. The process will also generate organic fertilizers, helping to support sustainable farming and reduce waste.

Officials said the project would help cut greenhouse gas emissions and could earn carbon credits, supporting Egypt’s wider environmental and climate targets.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Environment’s plan to expand the use of biogas technology across Egypt’s regions and promote clean energy options that lower pollution. It also fits into Eni’s long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through cleaner and more efficient technologies.
