Engineers India Limited (EIL) has initiated site activities for its Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at the MIDC Halkarni Industrial Area in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. The foundation stone laying ceremony was led by Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and was attended by Vartika Shukla, Chairperson and Managing Director of EIL, along with board members and senior company officials.
The CBG facility, being developed as a self-funded project by EIL, is designed to produce 5 tonnes per day of compressed biogas. It will utilize around 125 tonnes per day of press mud, procured directly from sugar mills as well as through aggregators, and will operate using bio-methanation or anaerobic digestion technology.
The biogas generated at the plant will be supplied to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and distributed for vehicular use through HPCL’s retail outlets. The initiative is expected to help lower carbon emissions and encourage the adoption of renewable fuels in the transportation sector.
In addition to producing clean gaseous fuel, the plant will generate Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) and Liquid Fermented Organic Manure (LFOM) as by-products. These outputs are intended to support sustainable farming practices and strengthen the circular economy by providing environmentally friendly fertilizers and reducing waste.
The project underscores EIL’s strategic focus on expanding its presence in sustainable energy infrastructure, while building on its core engineering expertise. It is aligned with key national initiatives, including SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation), Atmanirbhar Bharat, and India’s broader energy transition objectives.
By supporting India’s waste-to-energy and clean mobility ecosystem, the project highlights EIL’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions, promoting environmental sustainability, and contributing to national energy goals.
