Dubai Municipality and BiOD Technology, a subsidiary of DUBAL Holding have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to convert used cooking oils (UCO) and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) into B100 biodiesel—a clean, renewable fuel, reports Zawya.
Under the agreement, BiOD Technology will collect and process these waste oils, helping to reduce pollution, cut environmental impact, and lower wastewater treatment costs.
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials, including Fahad Al-Awadhi, Director of Sewerage and Recycled Water Projects at Dubai Municipality; Yousef Bastaki, Board Member of BiOD Technology; and Shiva Viga, CEO of BiOD Technology.
The partnership supports Dubai’s long-term environmental goals and green economy plans by promoting the shift to cleaner energy.
Adel Al Marzooqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the initiative is a major move toward using waste as a valuable energy source. “It helps protect key infrastructure, reduce environmental risks, and directly supports the goals set out in Dubai Vision 2030 for sustainability,” he noted.
Ahmed bin Fahad Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Board at BiOD Technology, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to practical, sustainable solutions. “We’re working to create real environmental benefits and build a service network that can make a global difference,” he said.
CEO Shiva Viga added that the company’s advanced technology and experience allow it to produce high-quality renewable biodiesel. “This collaboration opens the door to more projects that promote sustainable waste management and innovative recycling solutions,” he said.
