Cairn Oil & Gas partners with Serentica Renewables for using clearner energy

Cairn Oil & Gas has started sourcing renewable energy for its operations in Rajasthan after signing a power agreement with Serentica Renewables India, marking a shift towards cleaner energy use in oil production, Energetica India reported.

Under the agreement, Cairn will source 25 MW of renewable hybrid power-generated from solar and wind—for its operations in Barmer. The move will meet around 20% of the power needs of the company’s onshore oil-producing asset.

The renewable energy is being supplied from Serentica’s facility in Gadag. The company said the transition is expected to cut carbon emissions by about 115 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually, comparable to planting nearly 5.75 million trees each year.

The agreement is structured to supply around 153 million units of renewable energy annually, ensuring steady power for Cairn’s Mangala facility in Barmer.

Officials said the partnership is part of efforts to combine energy production with cleaner power sources, while maintaining supply stability. The move will also help the company meet renewable energy requirements set under existing regulations.

The development is seen as a step towards increasing the share of clean energy in Cairn’s operations, as the company works towards its long-term goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions and expanding the use of renewable energy in the coming years.
