Bentley to use sustainable aviation fuel for airfreight of customer cars

Bentley Motors has announced that it will use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for all airfreight shipments of customer cars worldwide, a move aimed at cutting emissions from its global logistics operations, MEM Sustainability reported.

The decision takes effect immediately and forms part of the company’s wider efforts to reduce carbon emissions in its supply chain. Bentley said air transport is used only in limited situations such as urgent deliveries or specific customer requirements, but when it is necessary the company will now rely on SAF instead of conventional aviation fuel.

SAF is produced from renewable or waste-based sources and can be used in existing aircraft without any modifications. Depending on how it is produced, the fuel can lower lifecycle carbon emissions by as much as 70 to 95 per cent compared with traditional jet fuel.

Aimee Kelly, Head of Sustainability at Bentley Motors, said the shift to certified SAF reflects the company’s efforts to reduce emissions in areas where flights remain necessary.

Bentley said it has already transported several customer vehicles using SAF and recorded significant reductions in emissions compared with regular aviation fuel.

Currently, the use of SAF applies to all airfreight shipments of customer vehicles, while the company is also exploring the possibility of extending the fuel to other logistics operations that require air transport.

The initiative is part of Bentley’s broader sustainability programme under its Beyond100+ strategy, which aims to reduce emissions across the company’s operations and support its long-term goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions.
