On August 14, 2024, Be8 commenced construction of a new ethanol plant in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2026, will have an annual production capacity of 220 million liters. It will produce both anhydrous ethanol, for blending with gasoline, and hydrated ethanol, for direct fuel use. The project, funded with R$ 729.7 million from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, will utilize wheat and triticale as new raw materials for ethanol production in Brazil.
According to the media report, the plant will also produce bran for animal feed and vital gluten for human consumption, and will generate its own electricity through biomass cogeneration. Excess energy will be fed into the local distribution network, while liquid effluents will be recycled for steam production. Covering approximately 40 hectares with significant earthmoving work involving 1.5 million cubic meters of soil, this plant is a notable addition to Be8’s portfolio, which includes biodiesel, green diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, liquefied natural gas, green hydrogen, and ammonia.
