AT-Tuote to use renewable raw material from Neste in new multipurpose oil

Neste and Finnish company AT-Tuote have joined forces to introduce a more sustainable multipurpose oil to AT-Tuote’s product range. By replacing traditional fossil-based raw materials with Neste’s renewable feedstock, Neste RE™, the new oil contains over 90% renewable content, significantly improving its carbon footprint compared to fossil-based alternatives. The oil, branded as AT Fossil Free, is versatile and can be used for various applications, including lubrication, cleaning, moisture displacement, and as a penetrating oil.

Neste RE is made from pure hydrocarbons (isoalkanes) produced in Neste’s refineries, using a range of 100% renewable raw materials such as waste oils and fats. This renewable solution is designed to replace conventional fossil, crude-oil-based feedstock used in chemicals and polymers production. Neste RE reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85% over its lifecycle compared to traditional fossil feedstocks. Additionally, it offers the same quality, safety, and performance as similar products derived from fossil resources.

“This partnership highlights the versatility of both the new oil and Neste RE,” said Jeroen Verhoeven, Commercial Director for Polymers and Chemicals at Neste. “Neste RE is a flexible solution that can replace fossil resources across a variety of sectors, from basic chemicals to more complex ingredients.”

This collaboration builds on a previous successful project between AT-Tuote and Neste, which in 2019 resulted in the world’s first industrial lubricant made from nearly 100% bio-based content.

Jorma Virtanen, Managing Director of AT-Tuote, commented, “We are excited to continue our work with Neste on renewable solutions through this new multipurpose oil. Ensuring sustainability while maintaining product performance and safety was crucial, and switching to renewable raw materials has allowed us to achieve that goal.”

AT-Tuote plans to distribute the new product through partners in several countries across the Americas and Northern and Central Europe, with initial sales expected to begin in 2024.
