Guwahati is set for a major upgrade in eco-friendly transport following the announcement of plans to add 100 electric buses to the city’s public transport system, India Today reported.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Guwahati will receive the additional buses under the Prime Minister’s initiative to promote sustainable urban transport.
The addition will take the city’s electric bus fleet to 400. Along with the existing 100 CNG buses, Guwahati’s green public transport fleet will increase to 500 buses.
Sarma said the state now has the capacity to gradually phase out diesel buses, signalling a clear shift toward cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility.
