Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has set a target of generating 160 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2029 under its newly launched Green Energy Policy. The announcement was made by Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar at the Green Energy Conference held in Vijayawada, reports The Hans India.
The event, organised by the AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and the Swaniti Initiative, also featured Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh.
Minister Ravi Kumar said the state government is strongly committed to clean energy development. He noted that investor trust, which had weakened during the previous government, has been restored under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He added that several investment agreements have already been signed, and the government is now working to turn those agreements into real, on-the-ground projects. The Rayalaseema region has been chosen as a key area for setting up these new energy ventures.
To help build the workforce needed for such a large-scale initiative, the government plans to focus on skill development. The APSSDC will offer specialised training programs to unemployed youth to prepare them for jobs in the green energy sector. “We are aiming to create 2 million job opportunities through these efforts,” said Minister Ravi Kumar.
He also announced that Reliance Industries will be a major partner in the state’s green energy push. The company is planning to set up 500 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across Andhra Pradesh.
Minister Lokesh recently laid the foundation stone for one of these plants in Prakasam district. These CBG plants are expected to create over 250,000 jobs, offer better rental income to farmers for their land, and help reduce the migration of people from rural to urban areas in search of work.
