Amaravati: A USD 10-billion green hydrogen and green ammonia project being developed at the port city of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh is set to cross an important construction milestone, highlighting India’s growing ambition to supply clean energy to global markets such as Germany, Japan and Singapore, reports The Economic Times.
The first major equipment erection ceremony for AM Green’s Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex is scheduled for January 17 and will be attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Konidala Pawan Kalyan, according to state government officials.
One of the largest clean energy investments undertaken in India so far, the project involves a total investment of USD 10 billion. It is expected to create up to 8,000 jobs during the construction phase, along with significant skilled employment during operations and in related sectors including renewable energy, logistics, storage and port services.
AM Green is developing India’s first and the world’s largest green ammonia complex by converting an existing ammonia-urea facility into a green energy hub. The planned production capacity of the complex is 1.5 million tonnes per year.
The project will be commissioned in stages, with an initial capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per year targeted by 2027. This is expected to increase to 1 million tonnes by 2028, before reaching full capacity by 2030.
Once fully operational, the facility will enable India’s first exports of green ammonia. The product is expected to be used internationally as a clean fuel for shipping, power generation and as a carrier for green hydrogen.
