Algeria aims to become major green hydrogen exporter

Algeria is developing an energy roadmap aimed at increasing renewable energy sources in power generation and becoming a leading green hydrogen exporter, according to the country’s Oil Minister.

Speaking at an economic seminar in Italy on Friday, Mohammed Arkab stated that the North African nation is advancing projects to enhance renewable energy power generation to 15,000 megawatts (MW), which would represent nearly 30 percent of the total energy mix by 2035.

Quoted by Elkhabar and other Algerian newspapers on Sunday, Arkab mentioned that the Oil Ministry is finalizing a long-term energy strategy that leverages Algeria’s extensive natural resources.

“Algeria is committed to becoming a major green hydrogen exporter. This goal is achievable given the country’s vast natural resources, including substantial natural gas and water reserves, abundant sunlight, a skilled workforce, and a sophisticated gas distribution network,” Arkab said.
