Air bp, Airbus sign SAF and jet fuel supply deal

Air bp has signed a multi-year agreement with Airbus to supply conventional jet fuel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and related services across Germany and Spain, Biofuels International reported.

The deal, confirmed by Air bp, enables one of the largest voluntary purchases of SAF by an original equipment manufacturer and strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two companies. Air bp, the aviation division of bp that operates at more than 650 locations in over 40 countries, will support a broad range of Airbus operations.

The contract includes fuel supply for commercial aircraft, helicopters, and military aircraft programmes. It also covers key activities such as flight testing, customer deliveries, internal transportation through the Beluga fleet, and the daily employee shuttle service connecting Toulouse and Hamburg.

Christian Frohn, Vice President at Air bp, said the agreement reflects the company’s capability to deliver complex, multi-country solutions that improve operational efficiency while supporting efforts to lower emissions. He added that the partnership aligns with Air bp’s strategy of focusing on strong markets and building long-term collaborations with major industry players.

Sustainable aviation fuel can cut carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80 percent over its lifecycle compared with conventional jet fuel. However, it does not lower emissions during combustion, meaning emissions at the aircraft wingtip remain largely similar to those from fossil-based jet fuel.
