Aemetis Biogas signs $27 million agreement with Centuri to build Gas Cleanup Systems for 15 dairy digesters

Aemetis, Inc., a company specializing in renewable natural gas (RNG) and renewable fuels with a focus on low and negative carbon intensity, announced today that its Aemetis Biogas subsidiary has signed a $27 million equipment agreement with Centuri Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CTRI), a $2.6 billion infrastructure services contractor. The agreement will enable Centuri to build biogas cleanup systems for 15 dairy digesters.

This agreement, along with anticipated future deals with Centuri, will allow Aemetis Biogas to rapidly scale up the construction of dairy digesters, producing renewable natural gas (RNG) for a total of 50 dairies already committed to the project. This summer, 16 dairies are expected to begin operations in the Aemetis Biogas Central Digester Project near Modesto, California. The project includes 36 miles of biogas pipeline and a central biogas-to-RNG production facility, which is already delivering RNG into the PG&E utility gas pipeline.

Eric McAfee, Chairman and CEO of Aemetis, commented on the growing partnership with Centuri, stating, “This agreement for biogas equipment is just the beginning. We also plan to collaborate with Centuri on construction management, pipe assembly, and the development of future projects focused on energy efficiency, carbon sequestration, and more. Their expertise in large-scale industrial and pipeline projects will be crucial in ensuring that Aemetis’ projects are completed on time and within budget.”

Dylan Hradek, President of US Gas at Centuri, highlighted the synergies between their utility distribution experience and Aemetis’ renewable energy initiatives. “With our growing involvement in renewable natural gas projects across various regions, partnering with Aemetis is a perfect fit. We look forward to contributing to the success of their projects, especially the work at the Riverbank site, and supporting their broader efforts to deliver innovative renewable energy solutions.”

Aemetis’ renewable energy and efficiency projects include expanding dairy RNG production to generate over 1 million MMBtu of renewable natural gas from 50 dairies, the installation of a mechanical vapor recompression system at its Keyes ethanol plant expected to increase annual cash flow by $32 million by 2026, and a carbon sequestration initiative at the Riverbank site designed to inject 1.4 million tons of CO2 underground annually. The company is also progressing with the development of a 78 million gallon-per-year sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel plant, which has received key permits, and is negotiating additional large-scale industrial and electrical projects at the Riverbank location.
