Adani Green Energy Limited, through its fully-owned stepdown subsidiaries, has successfully commissioned a total of 480.1 MW of power projects at its large Khavda renewable energy site in Gujarat. With this latest development, the Adani Group company’s total operational renewable energy capacity has now reached 14,217.9 MW, as confirmed in a filing to stock exchanges late Saturday.
The new plants are set to begin power generation on March 30, 2025.
Adani Green Energy is also working on a massive 30 GW renewable energy project at Khavda, located in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The project spans 538 square kilometers, and once completed, it will become the world’s largest renewable energy plant. The company plans to invest approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore into this ambitious initiative.
India relies heavily on coal-fired power to meet its energy demands, but renewable energy is seen as a crucial step toward reducing dependence on conventional power sources. At the COP26 summit in 2021, India made an ambitious five-part “Panchamrit” pledge, which includes reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of its energy from renewable sources, and reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. Additionally, India aims to cut its GDP’s emissions intensity by 45% and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
