ACWA Power expects the front-end engineering design (FEED) for its green hydrogen and ammonia production facility in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, to be completed by mid-2026 as it advances plans to export green hydrogen and ammonia to Europe, Zawya reported via Middle East Utilities.
The FEED contract, awarded in July 2025, is being executed by a consortium of Técnicas Reunidas and Sinopec. The Yanbu green hydrogen hub, supported by German energy company EnBW, is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2030.
ACWA Power is also exploring co-development and co-investment opportunities in ammonia infrastructure in Germany. In collaboration with EnBW, the company aims to establish a green ammonia corridor linking Saudi Arabia and Europe. Under this initiative, green ammonia produced at Yanbu would be supplied to Europe to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors.
The ammonia will be processed at a cracking facility under development by VNG, while EnBW will manage the commercial and logistical delivery of green ammonia to the Port of Rostock. A memorandum of understanding for the corridor was signed last week with EnBW, Rostock Port, and VNG, in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, and Katherina Reiche, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.
Project development continues alongside FEED. In October 2025, Kent was appointed as the owner’s engineer for the Yanbu project, while in September, Larsen & Toubro’s renewables division signed an MoU with ACWA covering the project’s renewable energy and grid scope.
ACWA said the Yanbu project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a leading exporter of green hydrogen and derivatives, while reinforcing energy cooperation with Europe.
