ACME Group has entered into a 10-year agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India to supply 3.7 lakh tonnes per annum of green ammonia, in a deal valued at around Rs 20,000 crore. The agreement is part of the Government of India’s SIGHT Scheme aimed at promoting large-scale adoption of green hydrogen and ammonia, Chemical Industry Digest reported.
The company will set up a green ammonia production facility in Odisha to meet the supply commitment. The plant will use renewable energy to produce ammonia, supporting India’s push to reduce carbon emissions and expand the use of clean fuels.
Once operational, the facility will supply green ammonia to six fertiliser plants located across five states. SECI will act as an aggregator, managing supply and distribution, while also entering into sale agreements with fertiliser companies that will use the product as a key input.
The ammonia produced in Odisha will be supplied to units in Gujarat, Odisha, Goa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, helping strengthen the domestic supply chain for low-carbon fertiliser production.
Company officials said the agreement marks a key step towards scaling up commercial production of green ammonia in India. It is also expected to demonstrate that such projects can be viable at competitive costs, which is important for the growth of the green hydrogen sector.
ACME has already set up a pilot facility for green hydrogen and ammonia and is now expanding into larger projects, including green methanol and ammonia plants in India and Oman, targeting both domestic and export markets.
The deal is seen as a significant milestone in India’s clean energy transition, as it ensures both production and long-term demand for green ammonia, supporting wider adoption in fertiliser and industrial sectors.
