ESY 2024-25: Average ethanol blending during November 2024-April 2025 stands at 18.6 per cent

India continues to make notable strides in its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme as ethanol production scales up steadily.

In the ongoing Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25, ethanol blending in petrol touched 19.7% in April 2025. The cumulative average blending rate for the period from November 2024 to April 2025 stood at 18.6%.

Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) procured 87.9 crore litres of ethanol under the EBP Programme in April alone, taking total ethanol receipts to 457.4 crore litres since the beginning of the supply year in November 2024.

Official data shows that 86 crore litres of ethanol were actually blended with petrol in April 2025, pushing the cumulative blending volume to 477.1 crore litres over the six-month period.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), ethanol supplies under the EBP Programme have seen a substantial rise—from 38 crore litres in ESY 2013-14 to 707.4 crore litres in ESY 2023-24. This growth enabled an average blending rate of 14.6% in the previous supply year.

India’s accelerated progress in ethanol blending reflects its broader push toward cleaner fuel alternatives and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
