Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has taken another step toward reducing its carbon emissions by signing new agreements with renewable fuel producers Neste and World Energy. The deals, finalized in the first quarter of 2025, are expected to cut over 9,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, reports Singapore Business.
As part of the arrangement, SIA bought 1,000 tonnes of pure sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Neste. The fuel was made at Neste’s refinery in Singapore, mixed with regular jet fuel locally, and used at Changi Airport. This is the airline group’s second purchase of SAF from Neste’s Singapore site and is part of efforts to build a steady and long-term fuel supply in the country.
In addition to the Neste deal, SIA also bought the environmental benefits equal to 2,000 tonnes of SAF from U.S.-based World Energy. This purchase was made through a system that allows companies to support cleaner fuel production without directly using the fuel themselves.
A representative from Singapore Airlines said the agreements are part of the company’s commitment to make flying more environmentally responsible. “We are focused on finding ways to lower our emissions, and using cleaner fuel is a practical step forward,” the spokesperson said.
An official from World Energy added that this kind of cooperation helps increase the availability of cleaner fuels. “These efforts show how airlines can lead the way in addressing environmental concerns while still meeting travel demands,” the official said.
These latest agreements support Singapore Airlines’ long-term plan to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to the wider global push for cleaner transportation options.
