Biogas technology startup Sistema.bio has raised $15 million in funding to accelerate its international expansion. This financing round, led by ElectriFI and supported by existing investors such as Chroma Impact, KawiSafi Ventures, and AXA IM Alts, is intended to bolster the company’s growth in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Sistema.bio has deployed 100,000 biogas units in 35 countries, converting animal waste into clean energy and fertilizer. The company manufactures digester tanks that can be directly connected to gas stoves, claiming to prevent over 1 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.
“The continued backing from ElectriFI and our coalition of investors enables us to focus on engaging millions of farmers in combating the climate crisis and ensuring food security. We are now better positioned to reach our target of empowering one million farmers by 2025 and reducing global emissions by 1% by 2030,” stated Alexander Eaton, CEO and Co-founder of Sistema.bio.
In June 2023, the government initiated efforts to advance biogas adoption by launching the unified GOBARdhan registration portal, designed to streamline the establishment of biogas plants and promote compressed biogas as a sustainable fuel option.
