The developers of six renewable hydrogen projects in Europe, with a combined capacity of 1,442 MW, have finalized their grant agreements, bringing them closer to implementation. These projects are situated in four countries: Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Norway.
The projects include eNRG Lahti (Finland, 90 MW), Grey2Green-II (Portugal, 200 MW), HYSENCIA (Spain, 35 MW), SKIGA (Norway, 117 MW), Catalina (Spain, 500 MW), and MP2X (Portugal, 500 MW). Collectively, they have the potential to generate up to 1.52 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen over their first decade of operation, resulting in an emissions reduction of more than 10 million tonnes of CO2.
In late April 2024, seven European initiatives were chosen for EU financial backing through the Innovation Fund’s pilot hydrogen auction (IF23 Auction), including these six projects. The total funding amounts to €694.5 million, to be distributed over ten years. Grants for the individual projects range from €8 million for HYSENCIA to €245 million for MP2X.
