The government is considering a proposal to raise ethanol prices for the season beginning November 2024 and is also pushing for a broader range of feedstocks. This move aims to meet the 20 percent ethanol blending target by 2025-26, according to report by PTI.
A committee led by a joint secretary from the petroleum ministry has already discussed the proposal once. The price increase for ethanol will be aligned with the fair and remunerative price of sugarcane.
“The price revision is being fast-tracked to boost production and achieve our blending objectives,” a source, who requested anonymity, as per report by PTI.
At present, ethanol derived from cane juice is priced at Rs 65.61 per litre, while ethanol from B-Heavy and C-Heavy molasses is priced at Rs 60.73 and Rs 56.28 per litre, respectively.
The committee is particularly focused on revising the prices of ethanol made from sugarcane.
