LoCI Controls Inc. has launched LoCI Controls Canada to expand its presence in the Canadian renewable natural gas (RNG) market and support landfill operators seeking to improve the financial performance of RNG projects, Biomass Magazine reported.
The company announced the launch on September 29, as interest in landfill-based RNG continues to grow across North America. The technology enables landfill operators to capture methane that would otherwise be flared or released and convert it into a marketable, lower-carbon fuel.
LoCI said the economics of landfill RNG projects depend on efficient gas capture and delivery, making real-time monitoring of underground landfill conditions important for operators.
The expansion comes amid growing momentum for RNG development in Canada, including recent federal investment aimed at increasing RNG production capacity in Ontario. It also precedes new federal methane requirements for landfill sites, which are scheduled to begin taking effect in 2028 for larger facilities with existing gas collection systems.
LoCI is already operating at three Canadian landfill sites, including two in Ontario and one in Quebec. RNG projects at the sites are approaching commissioning and commercial gas sales.
The company said its deployments have demonstrated that the system can operate under Canadian seasonal conditions, including prolonged periods of freezing temperatures.
At one participating landfill, methane flow and energy delivered to the gas plant increased by approximately 14% following the installation of LoCI’s automated control system.
To support its Canadian operations, LoCI Controls Canada has appointed Meaghan Amaral as its first Canadian employee. She will provide field support and training for existing operations while also leading business development activities across Canada’s RNG sector in her role as Service Representative and Territory Manager.
