Japanese automaker, Suzuki Motor Corp, has opened its second biogas facility in India. The plant is located in Bhukhala, Gujarat, and processes cow dung sourced from local farmers. The dung is then fermented to extract methane, which is compressed and sold as CNG vehicle fuel via an on-site filling station.
The facility began operations in January and can handle up to 100 tonnes of cow dung per day, producing around 1.5 tonnes of biogas daily.
It is classified as a carbon-neutral fuel, and the project is designed to generate additional income for the farmers supplying feedstock.
The plant was developed in cooperation with a local dairy industry association and forms part of a broader Suzuki’s initiative aimed at integrating rural supply chains into energy production while reducing emissions from conventional transport fuels.
