South Korea’s GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) has begun its operations in India’s clean energy space after completing a 12.75 MWp solar power project at Patur in Maharashtra, reports pv magazine.
The solar facility covers an area roughly equal to 12 to 13 football grounds and is expected to produce 18 to 20 million kWh of electricity every year. The power generated is enough to supply electricity to nearly 6,000 homes annually. The project is also expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions by about 8,000 tonnes each year when compared with electricity produced using conventional fuels.
The project has been set up under a framework that allows companies to directly purchase electricity through the existing power grid.
GS E&C has built the solar park and will continue to run it, selling the power generated from the facility. Nearly 69 per cent of the yearly output, estimated at around 13.9 GWh, will be supplied to Iljin Global India for the next 25 years. The remaining electricity will be sold to an Indian real estate firm.
In preparation for entering the Indian renewable energy market, GS E&C had established a local renewable energy company in 2023.
The company said the project marks an important step in strengthening its footprint in India’s renewable energy sector. It also said it plans to expand its activities beyond solar power to include wind energy and intends to work closely with Korean companies operating in India while reaching out to a wider group of customers.
