A new grain-based ethanol plant in Lakhimpur Kheri, set to begin production by the end of November, is expected to provide a significant boost to industrial development in the region. The state-of-the-art facility, developed by Zuari Industries, is poised to create new investment opportunities and generate employment in the area.
Industrial activity in the district has gained momentum since the groundbreaking ceremony held last year. Out of the 54 planned industrial units, 43 are already operational, with the remaining 11 units rapidly nearing completion. All units are expected to be fully functional by the end of December. Among the key developments is the ethanol plant, which will produce ethanol from agricultural crops such as maize and rice.
A technical officer involved with the project confirmed that the plant will have a production capacity of 180 KLPD, enabling year-round operation.
Ujjwal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Industry, highlighted the project’s potential to strengthen the rural economy. The ethanol factory is expected to create jobs for nearly 2,000 people, both directly and indirectly, offering significant employment opportunities and skill development for local youth. The plant’s establishment is also anticipated to drive increased maize and rice cultivation in the district, as per the news report.
Aligned with the national ethanol blending policy, the plant will contribute to the state’s efforts to enhance energy self-sufficiency. In an agriculturally dominant district like Lakhimpur Kheri, the facility’s focus on maize and rice-based ethanol production is expected to benefit local farmers by stimulating demand for these grains.
Zuari Industries recently announced in a press release that the 180 KLPD bioethanol plant, part of a 50:50 joint venture between Zuari Industries Limited and Envien International under Zuari Envien Bioenergy Pvt Ltd (ZEBPL), is scheduled to begin operations on November 25.
