WGES to prioritise climate justice, empower vulnerable communities

The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) has declared that its primary goals are achieving climate justice and empowering underprivileged communities.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the summit serves as a leading platform for dialogue, exploring solutions, and making decisions that support global efforts to combat climate change and assist vulnerable populations.

In a press release on Tuesday, Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), stated that WGES aims to empower developing regions, promote global cooperation, and encourage public-private partnerships to tackle climate change.

He further noted that the summit will emphasize advancing green policies, promoting innovative technologies, and facilitating the transition to a green economy, while also addressing the risks and challenges related to energy supply to support this transition.

Organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, DEWA, and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO), the 10th WGES is scheduled for October 2-3, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This year’s theme is “Empowering Global Action: Unlocking Opportunities and Advancing Progress.”

The summit’s key thematic pillars for this year include decarbonisation, advancements in clean energy (such as green hydrogen and energy storage), climate finance, the circular economy, technology’s role in addressing climate change, youth involvement in climate issues, and food and water security.
