VINCI win €1.2 billion contract for Spain’s largest biofuel plant

Grupo Cobra and Masa, subsidiaries of VINCI Energies SA, have been awarded a €1.2 billion contract to build Spain’s largest second-generation biofuel plant. The project will be located in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, and was commissioned by Moeve and Apical, according to an announcement made on Monday, reports Baha breaking news.

Once operational, the facility will produce 500,000 tonnes of sustainable fuel annually, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel. It will use agricultural waste and used cooking oil as raw materials. The plant will run entirely on recycled water and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 75% compared to conventional fuel refineries.

“This project is an important step in supporting the shift toward cleaner energy,” said a spokesperson for VINCI Energies. “It reflects our commitment to long-term environmental solutions.”

A representative from Moeve added, “This facility will play a major role in promoting sustainable fuel in Europe. We’re proud to lead the way with our partners.”

The project highlights Spain’s growing role in the clean energy movement and aligns with VINCI’s wider environmental goals. In 2024, VINCI reported €3.8 billion in revenue from its operations in Spain, marking the country as a key market in its global strategy.
