US committed to partner in India’s energy transition journey: US foreign commercial service

In a reinforcement of the expanding Indo-US partnership, Jonathan Heimer, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the US Foreign Commercial Service (FCS), emphasized the United States’ commitment to supporting India’s ambitious energy transition goals.

Speaking at the 2nd Energy Summit organized by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Heimer highlighted the substantial opportunities for collaboration between the two nations in the energy sector.

“We see numerous opportunities for collaboration in India’s energy sector. This is why we have established a strong presence in India,” Heimer stated during the IACC’s inaugural session, which was themed ‘Climate Change and Decarbonization of the Indian Economy – Vision 2030.’ He further noted, “The US is a dedicated partner in India’s clean energy journey. American businesses are actively contributing to India’s ambitious targets, from solar and wind power to energy storage and grid modernization.”

Heimer also acknowledged India’s significant progress in its energy transition, pointing out that the goal of achieving 500 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030 highlights India’s aspiration to become a global leader in clean energy.

Carrie Antal, Deputy Director of the Indo-Pacific Office at USAID, observed that India’s success in economic growth has made it a source of inspiration for other countries aiming to replicate its growth trajectory.

“Many are now looking to India for ideas and support that can drive their own progress towards prosperity,” she said.

Antal outlined the partnership between USAID and India, noting past collaborations that helped fuel India’s green revolution, improve public health and education, and lay the groundwork for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

“Today, the US collaborates with both the private and public sectors in India to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals, both within India and globally. We believe that innovations, investments, and ideas developed in India can have a transformative impact on the world,” she added.

She suggested that partnerships between the Indian private sector and development organizations like USAID could achieve significant development impact while advancing business priorities.

Addressing the IACC event, Upendra Tripathy, IAS (retired), Former Secretary of MNRE, GOI & Founding DG of the International Solar Alliance, remarked that there are valuable institutions, individuals, and ideas in both countries, offering ample opportunities for bilateral engagement and knowledge sharing.
