UK: Funding unlocked for 100,000 new local EV chargepoints

Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood has announced that £381 million from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund will be allocated to support the installation of 100,000 on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging points across England.

This funding is aimed at helping drivers who do not have access to private driveways or off-street parking, making it easier for more people to adopt electric vehicles. With more than 80,000 public chargepoints already in place across the UK, the additional investment is designed to further assist local authorities and industry in meeting growing demand.

“This government is powering up the EV revolution by rolling out a new chargepoint every 29 minutes,” said Minister Greenwood. “Our support for over 100,000 local chargepoints in England highlights our determination to keep up the momentum.”

She added, “We’re delivering our Plan for Change by investing over £4 billion to help drivers make the switch to EVs, while also supporting British automotive manufacturers through international trade agreements—creating jobs, encouraging investment, and strengthening our economic future.”
