In June, U.S. ethanol exports reached 173.7 million gallons, reflecting a 6% decline from May amid ongoing market fluctuations. Despite the monthly drop, shipments remained 30% higher than the same month in 2024. Canada continued to lead as the top destination, with exports rising 6% to 64.9 million gallons — the highest volume in six months.
Exports to India saw a sharp increase, climbing 158% to 24.2 million gallons, marking the largest monthly shipment since January. The European Union brought in 20.3 million gallons, mainly through the Netherlands, though this figure was down by a third compared to May.
Ten other countries accounted for the remainder of U.S. ethanol exports in June. Among them, South Korea imported 12.6 million gallons (up 16%), the Philippines 12.0 million gallons (up 5%), the United Kingdom 11.0 million gallons (down 64%), and Colombia 10.8 million gallons (down 17%). Notably, Brazil remained absent from the export list for the second month in a row.
For the first half of 2025, total U.S. ethanol exports hit 1.06 billion gallons, representing a 13% increase over the same period in 2024.
Meanwhile, U.S. imports of undenatured fuel ethanol were minimal, totaling just 21,696 gallons from Canada in June, bringing the year-to-date total to 3.4 million gallons.
DDGS Exports Hold Steady, but Show Mixed Market Trends
U.S. exports of dried distillers grains (DDGS), a key co-product of ethanol production used for animal feed, edged slightly lower in June to 917,307 metric tons. The overall decline reflected varied performance across major trading partners.
Shipments to Mexico, the largest buyer, fell 11% to 184,379 metric tons. In contrast, South Korea increased imports by 18%, reaching 112,890 metric tons. Exports to Vietnam dipped slightly by 1% to 87,729 metric tons, while Colombia recorded a significant rebound, jumping 167% to 80,015 metric tons.
Other notable movements included a 19% decrease in exports to Indonesia (73,298 metric tons), an 11% rise to Canada (50,726 metric tons), a 10% decline to Turkey (50,630 metric tons), and a 33% drop in exports to the European Union (47,206 metric tons). These eight countries accounted for approximately 75% of total U.S. DDGS exports in June.
Among other destinations, Morocco ramped up its purchases by 174% to 31,740 metric tons, and Taiwan imported 30,604 metric tons — a 55% increase and the highest monthly volume in eight years.
From January through June 2025, total U.S. DDGS exports amounted to 5.42 million metric tons, down 8% compared to the first half of 2024.
