Trade watchdog recommends maintaining duties on Indonesian biodiesel imports

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has released its Statement of Essential Facts concerning the import of biodiesel from Indonesia, following a transition review, reports Gov.UK.

The review, which began on December 6, 2024, examined the existing charges imposed to counter unfair subsidies (countervailing duties) and looked closely at the product description. Based on its findings, the TRA has recommended an update to the product scope to specifically exclude sustainable aviation fuel.

The proposed new definition for the product subject to duties is: Fatty-acid mono-alkylesters or paraffinic gasoils obtained from synthesis or hydrotreatment of non-fossil origin in pure form or as included in a blend, excluding sustainable aviation fuel, in pure form or as included in a blend.

The TRA’s planned recommendation is to keep the current countervailing duty rates on Indonesian biodiesel in place, which presently range from 8% to 18%.

Parties interested in the findings are invited to submit their comments through the Trade Remedies Service by the provisional deadline of January 8, 2026.
