TP Solar produces 1 GW of modules and 0.9 GW of cells in July-September quarter

TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing arm of The Tata Power Company Limited, produced 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells in the July to September quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, the company said in a press release.

TP Solar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL). In the first half of the financial year, from April to September 2026, it manufactured 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells, according to the release. The company said the output reflected a steady ramp-up in capacity and improving operational efficiency.

According to the release, the modules comply with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and are listed under the Government of India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).

TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW integrated solar cell and module plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, which the company described as one of India’s largest single-location facilities of its kind. Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested nearly Rs 4,300 crore in setting up the plant.

The company said women make up nearly 80 per cent of the plant’s workforce. It described the investment as a major step towards building domestic capability across the solar value chain, in line with Tata Power’s aim of becoming self-sufficient in cell and module manufacturing.

The plant uses Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Monocrystalline Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (Mono PERC) technologies. It produces both ALMM-certified modules and DCR modules made with Indian-made cells. According to the release, the facility also uses artificial intelligence and machine learning-based systems as well as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).

Tata Power said the facility supports India’s net-zero goals through local manufacturing. The company’s overall operational and under-construction power capacity exceeds 26 GW, including around 17.7 GW of clean energy and about 8.8 GW of thermal capacity.
