TotalEnergies will supply 400,000 tons of LNG per year for 15 years in the Dominican Republic

TotalEnergies has reached a Head of Agreement (HoA) with Energia Natural Dominicana (ENADOM), a joint venture between AES Dominicana and Energas in the Dominican Republic, for the supply of 400,000 tons of LNG annually. The deal, which is contingent upon the finalization of Sales and Purchase Agreements (SPAs), is slated to begin in mid-2027 and will span 15 years, with prices indexed to Henry Hub, according to the press release.

This agreement will enable ENADOM to provide natural gas to a new 470 MW combined-cycle power plant currently under construction. Once operational, the plant will help boost the country’s electricity generation capacity. The project plays a key role in advancing the Dominican Republic’s energy transition, reducing its reliance on coal and fuel oil by switching to natural gas, a cleaner energy source with lower carbon emissions.

“We are excited to finalize this agreement, working alongside AES and its partners to meet the Dominican Republic’s energy needs. This new contract highlights TotalEnergies’ leadership in the LNG industry and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition. It will also provide a natural outlet for the increasing supply of LNG from the United States,” said Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President of LNG at TotalEnergies.

Edwin De los Santos, CEO of ENADOM, remarked, “This partnership with TotalEnergies reflects the confidence in the Dominican Republic’s energy sector, particularly in ENADOM and AES. Together, we are committed to providing the Dominican electricity market with a reliable, competitive, and environmentally responsible natural gas supply. ENADOM is proud to play a key role in expanding and strengthening the nation’s energy grid.”
