TotalEnergies ENEOS celebrates the commissioning of SteelAsia’s first solar rooftop project

TotalEnergies ENEOS has successfully commissioned a 1.9-megawatt peak (MWp) solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system in collaboration with SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation, the Philippines’ leading steel manufacturer and one of the largest rebar producers globally.

The installation, which includes over 3,200 solar modules, is located at SteelAsia’s Meycauayan facility in Bulacan. The system is expected to generate approximately 2,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, providing substantial cost savings for SteelAsia and reducing its carbon footprint by about 2,300 tons of CO2 emissions each year. This reduction is equivalent to planting over 34,500 trees.

Under a 10-year solar agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS fully funded, installed, and will operate the solar system for the entire duration. During this period, SteelAsia will purchase the electricity generated by the system with no upfront costs.

This solar project is part of SteelAsia’s broader decarbonization strategy, which includes integrating renewable energy sources across its operations. Two other SteelAsia plants, the Calaca green steel manufacturing plant and the Compostela rolling mill in Cebu, are already powered by geothermal energy.

Andre Sy, President of SteelAsia, emphasized, “Sustainability is central to our vision for the future of steel manufacturing. This solar project with TotalEnergies ENEOS is a crucial step in reducing our environmental impact and ensuring energy sufficiency across our operations.”

Ingrid Jaumain, Zone Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Philippines Project Corp., expressed her support for the initiative, stating, “The steel industry is energy-intensive, and improving energy efficiency is key. We’re proud to be SteelAsia’s trusted partner on their first solar rooftop project, contributing to their decarbonization efforts and the development of a sustainable steel industry in the Philippines.”
