Torrent Green Energy wins 300 MW in SECI’s wind power auction

Torrent Green Energy, a subsidiary of Torrent Power, has secured 300 MW in the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) latest wind power auction under Tranche XVIII. The winning bid was submitted at a tariff of ₹3.97 (~$0.046)/kWh. Although the original tender issued in March 2025 was for 400 MW, SECI later increased the capacity to 600 MW. However, only 300 MW was awarded, as the total eligible bids fell short of the offered capacity, reports MERCOM.

In related developments, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) released guidelines establishing a three-year validity for prototype wind turbine certificates. These guidelines, which also outline the procedure for installing prototype models, are mandatory for all wind turbine manufacturers in India. Implementation will be carried out by the National Institute of Wind Energy in Chennai.

Separately, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) approved tariffs of ₹3.25 ($0.037)/kWh and ₹3.26 ($0.038)/kWh for SECI’s 600 MW wind-solar hybrid power projects under Tranche IX. However, CERC denied a request for a fixed trading margin of ₹0.07 (~$0.008)/kWh, citing the lack of final power sale agreements with distribution licensees. The commission said trading margins would be decided as per future agreements.

In Rajasthan, the state electricity regulatory body has released a draft procedure to streamline connectivity to the intrastate transmission system. The procedure applies to all entities seeking new or modified access to the grid at 33 kV and above and is framed under the 2024 Rajasthan Electricity Grid Code Regulations.

Kerala’s Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) is also moving forward with clean energy initiatives. ANERT has invited expressions of interest for demonstration projects focused on green hydrogen, smart energy solutions, and industrial decarbonization. Interested participants must submit proposals by June 18, 2025, with results expected by June 20.

Meanwhile, SECI has issued a request for selection to develop 2,000 MW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power projects, along with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage. Bid submissions are due by July 22, 2025, and will be opened on July 25. Selected developers will be responsible for land acquisition, project installation and ownership, and securing all necessary connectivity and regulatory approvals.
