The Czech Republic’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced a new support program aimed at encouraging local companies to produce energy from biomass. The initiative, part of the country’s push for renewable energy, is backed by 500 million Czech koruna (20 million euros) under the Operational Programme Technologies and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK).
The level of financial support will vary depending on the size of the enterprise and the type of eligible expenses. Companies can receive subsidies covering 30% to 65% of project costs. To qualify, projects must have a minimum eligible cost of 8 million Czech koruna (318,000 euros) and a maximum of 300 million Czech koruna (12 million euros).
Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček emphasized the importance of renewable energy in the Czech Republic’s energy strategy. “We see the basis of the future of the Czech energy sector in the core and development of renewable sources. That is why we have long focused on supporting the transition of Czech companies from fossil fuels,” he said.
Vlček highlighted the key activities covered under the scheme, which include the construction of biomass-based heat sources, combined heat and power generation, and the development of heat distribution facilities to transport energy to the point of consumption. These efforts aim to make companies more energy self-sufficient, reduce operational costs, and contribute to environmental protection.
The program’s goal is to increase the use of renewable energy, especially biomass from local production, and to encourage its adoption by more companies. By promoting efficient and economical use of biomass, the initiative seeks to reduce the Czech Republic’s reliance on primary energy sources like coal, oil, and natural gas.
The scheme will be launched for application from January 9, 2025, and will run until January 9, 2026. Interested businesses are encouraged to prepare their proposals within this period for financial support for their biomass energy projects.
