The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan-based IHI Corporation to explore the possibility of co-firing biomass with coal at the Mae Moh Power Plant.
EGAT stated that the collaboration will involve the exchange of information and technologies aimed at establishing wood pellet production plants. Additionally, both parties will evaluate the composition and properties of the pellets intended for use in power generation.
Narin Phoawanich, EGAT’s Deputy Governor – Fuel, emphasized that this partnership facilitates the exchange of information, experiences, and knowledge, which will be instrumental in advancing EGAT’s power plants towards the goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Net Zero Emissions by 2065.
